Lamentation to Our Lady of Sorrows

During Hispanic-Heritage Month, let us pray with Our Lady of Sorrows.
O Lady of Sorrows, O Mother grieving,
We come to you with the struggles of our time.
We mourn all the children torn from their parents,
We mourn the children crying from loss,
Children who have known fear and violence
At the border, in Chicago, in Flint, in Camden,
In Central and South America, in Africa, and in Asia.
For these children we mourn and lament.

O Lady of Sorrows, O Mother grieving,
We come to you with the griefs of our time.
We mourn all those who continue to experience
The injustice of poverty, of prejudice and racism;
We mourn the lack of concern for the common good
And the rejection of solidarity by too many who
Refuse to see human dignity in the least of these.
We lament our own failures to be present
To all those who suffer.

O Lady of Sorrows, O Mother grieving,
We come to you with the griefs of our time.
We mourn for what we have done to this earth,
For our lack of concern for Creation,
For our disregard for the beauty of the natural world,
For our refusal to take responsibility
And to affirm that all indeed is connected.

We lament for the injustice in this world;
May our grieving bring us to a deeper realization
That we are called to stand with you at the Cross
So we can be part of those who announce the Resurrection.
Mother, we hold up our hands to you,
Holding grief and hope, sorrows and possibility. Amen.
