Our Mission

logo

In our beginnings was the spark of charism, a fire of love, kindled in the hearts of a small  group of women and a young priest. This fire expressed itself in mission at the heart of a broken, dechristianized world in northern France. And the Spirit, through Jean Baptiste Debrabant, called this expression of God’s love  The Holy Union.

Throughout our history, our sisters faithfully shared the good news of Jesus Christ in new places and with new cultures. The call they heard continues to inflame our hearts and gives life to our Mission: to be at the heart of the world revealing God’s love.

The Collegial Assembly, an international gathering held in the summer of 2005, brought us to another moment of choice for mission. Faithful to our heritage and in union with one another throughout the Congregation, we reaffirmed our life-long call to the unitive mission of Jesus Christ.
We committed ourselves to further that mission supported by ongoing theological reflection and actions that strengthen Our Communion for the Reign of God

Our Call Today

annunciation

The Annunciation by Robert Gilroy SJ

Community
We hold sacred …the belief that our life in common is mission, for mission, and essential to our vitality as Holy Union women. It is a resource that sustains us, a precondition for receiving new members, and a counter-witness in a fractured world.

Mission

We hold sacred … our charism of union and hear it now as an urgent call to live in solidarity, interdependence, and justice with all peoples and cultures.

Vocation and Formation for Mission
We hold sacred … our belief that Christ is the heart and foundation of our lives. Our vocation has its roots in God who continues to call today.

Sharing of Gifts and Relationships for the Life of All
Resources
We hold sacred …the belief that such resources as faith, persons, heritage, culture, education, finances, property,  and the earth, are God-given gifts held in trust and in a spirit of justice and solidarity for all.

Structures
We hold sacred …our shared responsibility to search for and develop structures which are life-giving for our congregation and our mission.
