Acts 6: 1-7; Psalm 33; John 6: 16-21
Again, we are told Jesus withdrew to the mountain by himself. What did you learn (discipulus/a means a learner) from being with him on the mountain yesterday? You might want to return to be with him there. If your life is tumultuous right now, you will find him leaving the mountain to walk on the water toward his frightened disciples. Join them in the boat and keep your eyes on Jesus.
Acts tells of an early dispute in the young community: Hebrew Christian widows get more food than Greek speaking Christian (Hellenist) widows. Mary of Nazareth was a Hebrew Christian widow. If your life is fairly peaceful now, you might talk with Mary about this rift in the community, what she felt, how she prayed, was there any action she could take. Then pray for the serious rifts in our world.
Jesus, reconcile all the families broken, the nations at war, the violence in our hearts. Prince of Peace, how much we need you! Come, Lord Jesus!
