Isaiah 58: 9-14; Psalm 86; Luke 5: 27-32
“’Why do you eat and drink with sinners?’” Jesus replied, ‘Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick do; I have come to call not the righteous but sinners to repentance.” (Matthew)
Where do you stand, with the righteous or with sinners? John’s first letter insists that if we say we have no sin we are liars. Ask the Spirit to show you your sin (and be prepared that it may surprise you!). Don’t scrub your conscience raw, and don’t expect the Spirit to teach you in this prayer period. Just keep aware of your motivations…
A clean heart create in us, O God, and a faithful spirit renew in us. Give us back the joy of your salvation. Help us to rejoice in your forgiving, healing love.
