Micah 2: 1-5; Psalm 10; Matthew 12: 14-21
God is so angry and punishing according to Micah, and again double-speak in the antiphon: “Do not forget the poor!” Or is it really contradictory? God loves the humble, the poor, and it is the people’s pride and greed that God is punishing in Micah. The psalmist assures us: “You do see. You do note trouble and grief, that you may take it in your hands. The helpless commit themselves to you to help the orphan.” Jesus, as described today, is gentle, not wrangling or breaking a bruised reed. “In his name (the Servant) the Gentiles will hope.”
What in your life will you commit to God’s hands? Where in your life do you feel helpless? When have you felt orphaned? Then, what is your experience of God in those times? Respond to God.
So many orphans in our world, so many broken families in refugee camps and even in our own rich societies. Help us to see, to note brokenness and to offer healing, at least through our prayers.
