St. Leo the Great Parish in Baltimore's Little Italy recently honored religious sisters, priests, brothers and a deacon who have provided outstanding service to St. Leo's both in the past and present. Among those honored were Sr. Mary Catherine Duerr, SUSC and her sister, Sr. Marie Duerr, SUSC.

Sr. Mary Catherine, who received her citation from U.S. Senator Barbara Mikulski, coordinates the parish's Senior Program and Pastoral Care ministry. She visits shut-ins in the neighborhood, parishioners in nursing homes and coordinates the Tuesday Senior Meetings. Senator Mikulski and Sr. Mary Catherine were high school classmates at the Institute of Notre Dame in Baltimore. Senator Mikulsi's citation read: In recognition of your outstanding devotion and dedicated service to the St. Leo's Community.

Sr. Marie received a citation from Governor Martin O'Malley in recognition of her volunteer work in the parish's Tuesday Senior Program. The citation read: On behalf of this state…. we honor your devotion to the Church and your efforts for the betterment of the community.
