Srs. Claire and Pauline LaRoche
In this spotlight we present the reflection of Sr. Claire LaRoche, who in her retirement is blessed to accompany her older sister, Sr. Pauline LaRoche, who will celebrate seventy years as a Holy Union Sister in September.
Claire writes: “I could have spent years searching for what might have been a fulfilling ministry, but instead I have been blessed and privileged to have had it all laid down before me by God, who has been journeying with Pauline and me during this last chapter of her life. Yes, it has been, and still is, a journey of wonder, beauty, radical joy, sorrow and many deaths, all wrapped in one – a gift indeed as we both try to walk joyfully through the demands and richness of life!
With every new day comes Pauline’s renewal of the gift of her life to God. She returns to God the gift of her MEMORY, one of the most precious gifts we possess. This is her daily prayer, united to ours, in our daily pursuit of holiness – Holy Union, still alive, revealing God’s Love! Can there be a more fulfilling ministry?
I realize that God so wonderfully orchestrates our life that both life and death are mysteriously interwoven in a way that we are constantly being sustained by God’s unconditional love! As diminishment of mind and body overtakes one’s being, we can truly say: “May God be praised and thanked.”
