Feast of John the Baptist ~ Isaiah 49: 1-6; Psalm 139; Acts 13: 22-26; Luke 1: 57-66, 80
This day was chosen for this feast because the light in the northern hemisphere is beginning to wane, while at Christmas, six months later, the light is returning. Yet the reading from Isaiah ends: “I will give you as a light to the nations.” How, specifically, are you light? Were you light yesterday? Were you light this month, and to whom? “The hand of the Lord was with him.” How, specifically, is God’s hand with you? Is God’s heart with you? How will you respond?
