Acts 18:1-8; Psalm 98; John 16: 16-20
Community life in Corinth included Paul living and working with Priscilla and her husband Aquila. On the Sabbath, Paul would begin with good news for the Jews gathering in the synagogue; then, rejected, he would turn to the Gentiles. Titus Justus already believed in the one God and welcomed Paul when he was expelled from the Jews, as did Crispus, the leader of the synagogue. Jesus acknowledges the disciples’ sorrow, but promises they will not be left orphans.
Men, women, Jews, Gentiles—such is the community in Corinth, all one in Christ Jesus. Pray for unity: male and female, rich and poor, Jew and Palestinian, leaders and followers. Pray for skilled workers and the unskilled and those who cannot find work. Pray for those who work for peace and offer hospitality. Pray for a new Pentecost in our Roman Catholic church!
That we may all be one, Jesus, that you may take your joy in us, wrapping us all in your one warm embrace. Please carry close to your heart those who are discouraged, sick and alone.
