Isaiah 50:4-9; Psalm 69; Matthew 26: 14-26
“God has given me the tongue of a teacher that I may know how to sustain the weary with a word.” Jesus comes that he might bear our burdens and give us rest, and yet how true the psalm is to his experience: “Insults have broken my heart…I looked for pity and there was none, for comforters, and I found none.” Today is the day Judas betrays him for thirty pieces of silver.
How has your own greed or that of others betrayed you? How have you been comforted when insulted? When has Jesus sustained you in your weariness? What do you want now for comfort? Tell Jesus, and then ask if you may comfort him.
You look for pity, Jesus, and comfort. Thank you for all those who comfort the traumatized of Haiti, Chile and Turkey. Show us how to sustain the weary with our presence.
