40th Anniversary 4 Churchwomen in El Salvador
December 2nd, 2020 marks the 40th Anniversary of the Martyrdom in El Salvador of Maryknoll Sisters Ita Ford and Maura Clarke, Ursuline Sister Dorothy Kazel and Lay Missioner Jean Donovan who were brutally murdered then buried in a shallow grave on December 2nd, 1980. It is also a day to remember the 70,000 Salvadorans who have perished during that nation’s civil war.
Each year a delegation from the Leadership Conference of Women Religious (LCWR) and SHARE El Salvador commemorate the anniversary by sending a delegation to the graves of these women. In the light of the COVID 19 Pandemic, organizers hope to remember them with 40 remembrances. The Maryknoll Sisters are hosting a webinar on December 2 from 7:00 to 8:30 PM ET.
