Holy Union Associates
There are Catholic men and women out there who are happy in their faith. They go about raising their families, pursuing career goals, caring for family members or enjoying retirement. They may be volunteers in their parish or school. They seem to enjoy working alongside others with similar interests and goals. There may be one or more Religious Sisters involved with them. At times the group may have a special Mass celebrated where they renew their commitment to God, their Church, and to each other in their special community.
Looking at them more closely, one finds that they share the same spirit, the same charism (gift) as the Religious Sisters who are such an important part of their group. Whenever they meet, they share much more than tasks and event-planning. The love each has for Christ and the Church finds expression in prayer and discussion as well.
What we are describing could actually be a living reality in any one of the Holy Union Associates Communities. Unlike full Sisters, Associate members do not take vows. They make promises for one year. They are then free to renew their promises or not. Holy Union Associates share in the charism of the Holy Union Sisters. As their name implies, being united with each other, and with those with whom they come in contact, places them at the heart of the world revealing God’s love.
Why be an Associate?
- To respond to an inner call to a fuller relationship with God
- To embrace the call of the Holy Union Sisters “to be at the heart of the world revealing God’s love”
- To share prayer and spirituality with others
- To journey into the future with Holy Union Sisters and other Associates
How do I join?
A person usually responds to an invitation from an Associate or Sister to meet other associates at a local gathering. This may lead to a desire to strengthen and deepen the relationship with Holy Union. An orientation and mentoring process follows.
