Our Cameroonian Sisters Featured in Global Sister’s Report
On February 21, Global Sisters Report featured an article titled, “Work with women and children reflects Holy Union charism in Cameroon”. The full article can be read here: https://www.globalsistersreport.org/news/work-women-and-children-reflects-holy-union-charism-cameroon?site_redirect=1&fbclid=IwAR0UcWfl5-CptzWHuBSnnuH9ICoK3Z_rHSuzhgkMO7f6Wo6A8rTizSvfHm0
The article, written by our own Sr. Josephine Nko Ndindi, outlines the various efforts being undertaken by our Sisters in this part of the world embroiled in a civil war in the Northwest region of the country. First sent to this region to help address serious health problems, the Sisters initially opened clinics in the village of Baba 1, with a population of 35,000 people. As their numbers grew, they spread across six regions of the country, turning their attention on justice through education, health care, social services, pastoral care, and agriculture development.
Their healthcare work focused on malnutrition and anemia, performing 40 to 50 blood transfusions per month, and then to the wellbeing of young mothers who struggled to care for themselves and their children. Their work establishing nutrition programs and blood banks have had life-saving results. Challenges around food production and hygiene are also now being addressed, helping to relieve the hunger and disease which had plagued the region for so long.
Donations from countries around the world where our Sisters have a presence, including the United States, have played a significant role in funding these efforts. Continued financial support is critical to ensure the ongoing and expanding works of Holy Union in Cameroon. You can donate online by clicking the “Donate” button at the top of the page, and indicate you would like your donation to be used to support our Sisters’ work in Cameroon. Please also continue to pray for the safety of our Sisters, as the ongoing civil war in the region has created a very dangerous environment in which to do their work.
