Celebrating the 75th Anniversary of the Juniorate at Nanaquaket in Tiverton, RI.
On November 3rd a group of our sisters, all former students at our novitiate and prep school, gathered for a festive lunch and a trip down memory lane in celebration of the opening of the Holy Union Juniorate 75 years ago at Nanaquaket in Tiverton, RI. Although Sr. Pat Mulryan and Sr. Hannah Collins were not available to join us it was a wonderful day filled with warm and fun memories. Many thanks to the current owners of the property for allowing us to return and stroll the grounds which still feel so very familiar! In attendance were Sisters Gretchen Marlatt, Mary Bridget McGettigan, Ann Kernan, Fran Cavey, Helen McPeak, Pat Deasey, Eileen Davey, MaryEllen Ryan, Joan Guertin, Carol Regan and Kathee Corrigan.
The day began with a luncheon at McGovern’s Restaurant in Fall River, followed by a brief drive to Nanaquaket to visit the spot where so many were educated and formed for religious life. The day was a spectacular sunny Fall day, and for many those days seemed more like weeks ago and not decades. The grounds were still so familiar, as we strolled the lawns and walked down the wooden steps from the lawn to the water’s edge, and then gathered in the boathouse to sing again “The Bells of Nanaquaket”.
Sr. Helen McPeak summed the day up well, “HEART OF MY HEART, how I love the memories ! LOVE THE MEMORIES !!!!” We hope you enjoy the album below. Click any image to see it full sized then use the arrows on the left and right to advance the pictures.
