(Sister Blanche Albert)

August 10, 1933 ~ June 6, 2023

Sister Cecile Mousseau SUSC (Sister Blanche Albert) died June 6 at Madonna Manor, North Attleboro at the age of eighty-nine. Born in Attleboro, MA on August 10, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Blanche (Gosselin) Mousseau. In addition to her Holy Union Sisters, she is survived by her brother Albert Mousseau and family of Lewiston, Idaho, and her niece, Jacqueline Lemonde, and nephew Donald Courbron. Her sister, Elaine Courbron predeceased her. Sister Cecile entered the Holy Union Sisters on September 21, 1952, and pronounced her final vows on July 26, 1961. In 2022 she celebrated her seventieth anniversary as a Holy Union Sister.
Sr. Cecile’s early education was at St. Joseph’s School in Attleboro, and she graduated from St. John the Baptist Academy in Pawtucket, RI. She earned a B.S. Ed. at Catholic Teachers’ College and did further study at Rhode Island College. She taught middle and junior high school classes in Holy Union Schools in Massachusetts and Rhode Island for over twenty-five years. When she left the classroom Sr. Cecile participated in a year-long sabbatical program at Mt. St. Joseph College in Cincinnati. She then became a pastoral minister mainly to her Holy Union Sisters in their retirement communities. She volunteered at Genesis School in Providence where, in addition to teaching ESL classes, she assisted refugee families from Southeast Asia in whatever needs presented themselves. Her last ministry was visiting the Holy Union Sisters at Madonna Manor and teaching religious education classes at St. Cecilia Parish, Pawtucket.
In 2019 Sr. Cecile joined the Holy Union Community at Landmark (now Prosper Health) in Fall River. Recently declining health necessitated her move to Madonna Manor where she was warmly welcomed by the staff who recalled her faithful visits there to the Holy Union Sisters.
Visitation will be June 13 at 10 a.m. followed by the Memorial Prayer at 10:30 at St. Mark’s Church, 105 Stanley Street, Attleboro Falls. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, North Attleboro MA. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Sperry-McHoul Funeral Home. Donations in Sr. Cecile’s name may be made to the Mission Advancement Office, Holy Union Sisters  205 Bedford Street  Fall River MA 02720

When asked once how she was living and sharing our Holy Union Charism in her daily life, Cecile’s response truly reflected her life:
“I am present and listen and help the people with whom I work,
the people I meet in different circumstances, in any way I can.
I let them know I care.
When I see the sufferings of others,
it makes me more aware of God made flesh.”
