Sister Hannah Collins SUSC 
(Sr. Nora William)
Febraury 17, 1934 – January 6, 2024

 

Sister Hannah Collins, SUSC, a resident of the Fall River Jewish Home, died January 6 at the age of ninety. Born in New York City on February 17, 1934, she was the daughter of the late William and Nora (Mahoney) Collins. In addition to her Holy Union Sisters, she is survived by her brother William of New York City, sister-in-law Muriel Collins of Long Island, nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews and her dear friend, Kathleen Shatus of Baltimore. She was pre-deceased by her brothers Dennis and Thomas.
Sister Hannah graduated from the Holy Union Preparatory School in Tiverton RI. She earned a B.A. in Education from the College of the Sacred Hearts, Fall River, a M. Ed. from Bridgewater State College and did graduate studies at Loyola College, Baltimore. Sister Hannah joined the Holy Union Sisters on February 2, 1951, and professed her final vows on August 22, 1959. At the time of her death, she had been a Holy Union Sister for seventy-two years. Her teaching ministry spanned over forty years in parish schools staffed by her religious community in Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and New York. She served as Formation Director for the Holy Union Sisters who were part of an intercongregational community of sisters studying in Washington D.C. She later moved to New York City where she was the receptionist in the Cardinal’s Office for the Archdiocese of New York and later was secretary to the Vicars for Religious in the Archdiocese.
Sister Hannah joined the Holy Union Sisters residing at Prosper Fall River in November 2021 and moved to the Fall River Jewish Home in November 2022 when she needed further care.
A visitation Memorial Prayer Service and Mass of Christian Burial was held January 12, 2024 at St. Mary’s Cathedral, Fall River. Burial was in Long Island, New York.
